Fly fishing is definitely different from other fishing method. In conventional fishing method you need some kind of weight in order to send your hook and bait to the fishing zone. Fly fishing however is using the fly line as the weight. However in fly fishing we are manipulating the fly line to send the light “fly” to our desire fishing zone.
Fly fishing can be considered the oldest fishing method. It can be traced back way back to 300 bc. An artifact was found in Macedonia depicting a man fishing with along line and “fly” at the end of the line. This clearly show that mankind are clever enough to use artificial bait way before the modern fishing era.
With long history behind, fly fishing definitely has evolved tremendously. In the early stage, fly fishing is limited to the freshwater fishing. The limitation is mainly due to the type of material being used. However with advancement of available materials, fly fishing has been applied virtually everywhere. Post WWII for example see a tremendous advancement of fly fishing equipment advancement, especially in the rod, reels and lines.
